Sierra & Bryce: Kate Sessions Park

Sierra and Bryce had an amazing bohemian feel to their wedding ceremony at Kate Sessions park. The ceremony was timed perfectly with the sunset that day, and the guests were seated on rustic benches. My favorite part of the decor was the vintage rugs that lined the center aisle. Keeping with the theme, Sierra & Bryce had some really unique music requests. It was a joy working with this sweet couple and being a part of their special celebration.

Prelude- Dust in the Wind, Over the Rainbow, Sister of Pearl, Hey Jude, Gabriel's Oboe.
Bridal Party Entrance- Fields of Gold
Bride's Entrance- I'd Like by Freshly Ground

Kathryn & Nicholas: Sweetwater Summit Amphitheatre

Guitarist Nick Weiss joined me for this beautiful outdoor wedding. We played a selection of popular songs for the prelude, and a few special requests from the couple for their entrance music. This venue is a hidden gem in San Diego...there are lots of hiking trails and a quiet, peaceful lawn surrounding the open air amphitheater where the ceremony was held.

Ceremony Music Selections:

Prelude music- Various contemporary songs
Mother of the Groom- Amazed
Bride's Parents - My Girl
Bride's Entrance- Over the Rainbow
Exit- What a Wonderful World

Hannah & Kenneth: Heritage Park

Hannah and Kenny contacted me because they wanted a string quartet to play contemporary music for their wedding at Heritage Park. Shortly after meeting up with Hannah to talk about the details for the ceremony, I got a mysterious call from Kenny. He had an idea and he wanted us to help him surprise Hannah! We worked quickly to pull together his scheme.

On the wedding day, we set up in the balcony of the pretty chapel in the middle of Heritage Park. After playing the entrance music and getting the wedding off to a perfect start, we settled in until we were needed for the surprise.

Just before their vows, Kenny took the microphone and to the great delight of Hannah and all their guests, he serenaded her with "Turning Page," the wedding song from the Twilight movie. We provided the soundtrack of a live string orchestra, and everything came together perfectly. It was fun to be in on a secret, and to help this creative groom put together his scheme.

Entrance of the parents & grandparents: Stand By Me
Entrance of the bridal party: Theme from "Up"

Erica & Michael: Santaluz Country Club

Erica and Michael were married at the Santaluz Country Club in the midst of Rancho Santa Fe. This private community is filled with gorgeous estates and it was a treat just to drive the manicured road up to the country club. This was one of the hottest days of the year so far, but this couple was gracious enough to provide me with a luxurious umbrella so my violin and I remained quite comfortable.

Erica and Michael asked me to arrange "La Ritournelle" by Sebastian Tellier for their ceremony, which would also be their first dance song.

Ceremony Music:

Prelude- Spring from The Four Seasons, Autumn Leaves, Here Comes The Sun, The Luckiest, Spanish Eyes, Fly Me To The Mood, Love Me Tender, A Thousand Years
Mothers & Grandmothers- Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring
Bridal Party- Falling Slowly

Sand Ceremony- Gabriel's Oboe
Exit- La Ritournelle, All Of Me

Emily & Andy: Balboa Park Courtyard

Emily and Andy were married at the secluded courtyard of the Balboa Park Administration building complex. Being a San Diego native, I've been to majority of wedding sites at Balboa Park, but this was a lovely new place for me. I particularly enjoy wedding venues that have an element of privacy and in many popular areas that is difficult to find. Especially Balboa Park on a Saturday! Well, this sweet couple deserved it.

Andy and Emily asked my string quartet to provide an all-pop music prelude before the ceremony. It was a fun challenge for us, and we are excited to be adding more and more pop music to our repertoire. Andy surprised us with a very nice review just days after his ceremony. I'm so glad they enjoyed the music!

Ceremony Music:

Prelude- Clocks, Wonderful Tonight, A Thousand Years, Skinny Love, Halo, Follow You Into The Dark
Bridal Party- All Of Me
Bride- Canon In D
Exit- Here Comes The Sun, Best Day Of My Life

Brandon & Erin: Mount Woodson Castle

This couple had their ceremony on the lawn at rustic Mount Woodson Castle. The guests were very enthusiastic and even applauded after a few of our prelude songs!

Exit- Wedding March by Mendelssohn

Crystal & Joseph: Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club

Crystal and Joseph were married on a hot afternoon in August on the lawn at the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club. Fortunately, the lawn was very shaded by the time the ceremony started, and it was probably one of the cooler spots in San Diego that afternoon! Crystal's infectious laugh and the joy this couple shared made it an even sweeter day.

Ceremony Music:

Prelude- Air in G and other classical songs
Bridal Party: Canon in D
Bride: Bridal Chorus "Here Comes The Bride"
Communion: Sonata No. 3 by Handel
Exit: Rondeau by Mouret

Ricky & Patricia: Calumet Park La Jolla

Ricky and Patricia chose Calumet Park near Bird Rock in La Jolla for their wedding ceremony. The park is a lovely slice of green right next to the ocean. It is a secluded neighborhood so there was very little traffic or passerby, which is a rarity in La Jolla! The ocean view and sound of the waves was a perfect backdrop to their vows.

Ceremony Music:
Prelude: River Flows In You, All of Me, Here Comes The Sun, Air in G, Con Te Partiro, Fields Of Gold.
Bridal Party: Clair De Lune
Bride: The Luckiest
Exit: All You Need Is Love

Sid & Mar: Wedding Anniversary Celebration

I play my violin for so many weddings, but very rarely do I get the chance to play for a wedding anniversary. When Tasha asked me to play for her parent's 40th wedding anniversary party, I knew it would be a special day. Tasha and her two siblings threw an amazing party for their parents, Sid and Mar at their family home. My cellist Adrianna and I played for two hours by the pool as the guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers, and then we got to listen to the couple renew their vows and toast to four decades of memories together. I left feeling like I had learned so much from Sid & Mar's example of their simple commitment to love each other, and I had only just met them! I'm sure the rest of the day was just as special and memorable for everyone there.

Wedding with Guitarist Nick Weiss: Scripps Seaside Forum

When guitarist Nick Weiss asked me to play for a song at one of his client's weddings at Scripps Seaside Forum, I jumped at the chance to do something a little different than my usual solo violin/string ensemble gigs. Nick did a fantastic job arranging the music for "Cuando," sung my Ricardo Arjona, for the bridal entrance music. Nick and Kenny Eng played the two guitar parts while I played the vocal line. It was great! You can't beat Scripps Seaside Forum for an incredible beach view either.

Janice & Clint: The Inn At Rancho Santa Fe

My colleague Adrianna (cellist) and I played for the ceremony and cocktail hour of Janice & Clint's wedding at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. It was a hot afternoon but we were well taken care of and enjoyed the use of some shady umbrellas. I did a special arrangement of "Best Day of My Life" for Clint & Janice's exit music and it was a really fun ending to the ceremony!

Ceremony Music:
Bridal Party: Canon in D
Bride: Here Comes The Bride
Exit Music: Best Day Of My Life

Chris & Leah: Estancia Hotel & Spa

This was my first time playing at Estancia Hotel & Spa in La Jolla. The ceremony area was very private and there were wonderful shaded walkways along each side of the lawn. I especially loved how the guests entered from the stairway at the far end of the lawn and were greeted by this beautiful setting.

Ceremony Music:
Spring from the Four Seasons, Air in G, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Wonderful Tonight
Bridal Party: Canon in D
Bride: Trumpet Voluntary
Exit: Hornpipe from Water Music

Salvador & Armel- San Diego Handlery Hotel

This couple was so fun and super sweet during all of our conversations prior to their wedding. The Handlery Hotel was a new venue for me, but it was great! I especially appreciated their coordinator, Ann Marie who was so easy to work with for my part of the wedding.

The musician's eye view of the ceremony. Nice and shady!

Erin & Ethan- Corondao Community Center

I was excited to play for Erin & Ethan's wedding because their venue is one of my favorite places in all of San Diego- the Coronado Community Center. I love the Coronado Community Center so much I almost had my own wedding there! You really can't beat it for a gorgeous bay/marina view, grassy ceremony area, and it is actually affordable as far as wedding venues go. Erin and Ethan were also fortunate to experience a perfectly sunny San Diego afternoon for their wedding, despite the unseasonable rain we got earlier in the week.

The couple asked guests to refrain from picture taking during the ceremony, so this is from before it started, but aren't those cool chairs? And the view!

Daniel & Chelita- Circle Oak Ranch Wedding

I had the honor of playing for two important events in this couple's love story- their engagement about a year ago, and most recently, their wedding!

Daniel and Chelita got engaged in my old neighborhood of South Park, and I played the part of a 'busking' violinist as they strolled by. I changed my tune to their song, "River Flows In You" and Daniel got down on one knee and proposed to Chelita! It was a beautiful and memorable evening.

For their wedding, Chelita decided to walk down the aisle to another very special song, "Coming Home" by Radical Face. A good friend joined me on cello, and our music made the perfect setting for their elegant wedding at Circle Oak Ranch.

I had seen many gorgeous photos of weddings at the ranch from years past, but this was my first time playing there for a wedding. I enjoyed the drive through the orchards of Fallbrook almost as much as the wedding! It was the perfect setting for this sweet couple to say their vows in front of their family and friends.

Ceremony Music:
Entrance of wedding party & bride: "Coming Home" by Radical Face
Exit music: "River Flows In You" by Yiruma

John & Felicia: The Crosby Club

I met Felicia and John several months before their October wedding. They were such a sweet, happy couple and Felicia carefully thought out the music for their wedding ceremony. One of her first questions when we met was "Can you play A Thousand Years?" This beautiful song has been one of the top requests of 2014, and I was so happy to be able to say YES! :-)

I have played at the Crosby Club a few times and it was a perfect day for Felicia & John's wedding. Their photographer, Amy Millard even snagged a few pics of me! I love that she caught my baby bump in one of the photos. When I met Felicia and John, I brought my daughter to our consultation because we met up at a coffee shop in my neighborhood. At their wedding, my son got to come along (though he probably didn't notice)! Their wedding was one of my last performances before my son was born.

Congratulations, John & Felicia!

Ashley & Tom: The Crosby Club

Ashley and Tom decided on having my string quartet play for their wedding ceremony at The Crosby Club. I enjoy playing music for weddings, but especially when I get to join my colleagues from the San Diego String Quartet!

We set up in the shade on the lawn just outside the clubhouse. It was a very elegant affair!

Ceremony Music:

Prelude: Air in F, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, Air in G, Theme from "Up", La Rejouissance, Trumpet Tune.
Wedding Party: Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring
Bride's Entrance: Canon in D
Exit Music: Hornpipe from Water Music

Brittany & Elliot: Milagro Farms Winery

Brittany and Elliot had an intimate wedding ceremony and reception at Milagro Farms Winery in Ramona. The winery has a beautiful lawn set aside for wedding ceremonies, and several rustic buildings that were just perfect to house the cocktail hour and reception on the patio.

I played the violin for both the ceremony and the cocktail hour. I joined the couple and their guests beneath shaded oak trees for the ceremony. As the sun set, we walked up the path to the Wine Cave for the cocktail hour. I set up in domed foyer of the brick and mortar "cave," which was actually very elegant. It was fun to play in a very acoustically friendly space- my sound easily filled the connecting rooms and added a nice background to the conversations of the wedding guests.

Wedding Music:
Prelude- Air in G, and other selections
Bridal Party- Gavotte by Rameau
Bride's Entrance- Canon in D
Exit Music- Spring from the Four Seasons

Cocktail Hour Music:
A mixture of classical and popular songs

Aubree & Teddy: Saint Gabriel Catholic Church

Aubree & Teddy were married at beautiful Saint Gabriel's in Poway. Aubree requested that I learn the song "Aubrey" by Bread especially for her entrance. As their wedding drew near, the couple decided that they wanted to add a pianist and a vocalist to participate in the ceremony music as well. We rehearsed early on the day of the wedding and everything came together beautifully!

Prelude- Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Be Thou My Vision, Ave Maria, Canon in D
Bridal Party- A Thousand Years
Bride- "Aubrey" by Bread
Presentation of Gifts- Here I Am To Worship

Rebecca & James: San Diego Rowing Club

I had the chance to play at the San Diego Rowing Club for the first time as the violin soloist for Rebecca & James' wedding. The Rowing Club is situated on Mission Bay and has a long history in San Diego as the headquarters for many competitive rowing teams. The Club also happens to have a great patio area and event room in the boathouse! For their entrance, Rebecca and her bridesmaids walked out of the boathouse itself- a very dramatic way to start the ceremony! This couple was so sweet and it was a pleasure to meet with them a few days before their wedding to walk through the boathouse and plan out their ceremony music.

Ceremony Music:

  • Prelude: Classical selections from my repertoire
  • Bridesmaid's Entrance: Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring
  • Flowergirls & Ringbearers: "Spring" from the Four Seasons
  • Bride's Entrance: Here Comes The Bride
